Building a Family Home in Quito

Updated: May 21, 2022

We learned that so much can be done in a short amount of time when good people step up to help.

This family was one of the last remaining cane shacks in their neighborhood. Their young daughter struggled with asthma as the polluted air from the city infiltrated their home every time the wind blew.

Our team join efforts with the family's neighbors to build a structure that could protect their family from the elements. As neighbors saw youth from the United States happily getting their hands dirty and moving heavy cinder blocks to build the sturdy walls, more local youth joined the project. With so much manpower and a can-do attitude, this multinational group worked side by side to complete their home is four days. Of course, details like tile came after as we were able to leave the family with enough funds to complete the job in a way that the family would be proud to call it home.
